Shadow Basin Project for NZSki Limited

Client: NZSki Limited

NZSki is the leading operator of ski fields in Aotearoa New Zealand. In 2023, NZSki initiated a project to upgrade the Shadow Basin chairlift at the Remarkables Skifield in Queenstown, along with trail development and access routes.

The development site is situated within a unique high elevation landscape incorporating wetlands, streams, rock fields, unmodified cushionfields, and a diverse assemblage of flora and fauna.

e3Scientific was commissioned by NZSki to identify the terrestrial ecological values of the area, assess the ecological impacts of the project and develop effective recommendations for ecological mitigation and management.

e3Scientific developed comprehensive management measures to limit and mitigate the ecological effects of disturbance to the site.  This included identifying sensitive areas to be avoided, recording the location of rare plants and overseeing the reinstatement of disturbed vegetation.
